Response to Commencement Address at NSU May 6, 2016

Thank you so much for your support of Nurse Practitioners and Nurses today at the NSU Graduation Celebration.

So far, over 7 NP faculty, who have been lobbying to end Louisiana¹s archaic legislative mandated- practice agreements, have emailed me to say you were inspirational to them!

The faculty were also thrilled that our NP graduates heard your forward-thinking words regarding the much needed collegial relationship between physicians and nurses.

Senate Bill 187, to end these mandated practice agreements is to be heard again by the LA Senate House and Welfare Committee this Tuesday. Many Louisiana MDs are opposed to the bill, and are claiming NPs are not qualified to provide quality primary care to Louisiana¹s medically underserved -if a MD is not ³Supervising² us- even if that means many, many people will not receive ANY healthcare. This opinion has saddened those of us who have a heart to serve.

We wish more physicians shared your view of nurses- and again, thank you for inspiring us today.
